Mobile Glossary (Terms Explained)

This glossary explains common mobile terms in simple words.

Display

AMOLED / OLED: Deeper blacks, better contrast, usually more vibrant.
IPS LCD: Good colors, often cheaper, blacks not as deep as AMOLED.
Refresh Rate (Hz): Higher Hz (90/120) feels smoother in scrolling/gaming.
HDR: Improves contrast and highlights for supported content.

Performance & Storage

Chipset/SoC: Main “brain” of the phone (CPU + GPU).
RAM: Helps with multitasking. More RAM usually = smoother switching.
UFS vs eMMC: UFS is faster storage; apps and file transfers feel quicker.
AnTuTu: A benchmark score; useful for comparison but not the only factor.

Camera

OIS: Optical stabilization; improves low light and reduces shaky video.
EIS: Software stabilization mainly for video.
Aperture (f/): Lower number usually captures more light.
MP (Megapixel): Not the only quality measure—sensor and processing matter.

Battery & Charging

mAh: Battery capacity; higher usually lasts longer (depends on usage).
Fast Charging (W): Higher watt can charge faster (depends on tech/heat).

Network & SIM

5G / 4G LTE: Network generations; depends on coverage and bands.
Dual SIM: Two SIM cards; some phones use one SIM + one SD slot.
